Design & Advocacy
We have a voice and we’re using it. Riverlife plays an advocacy role in issues relating to design and transportation within and around Three Rivers Park. It was not long ago that our rivers were industrial highways and our riverfronts were viewed as the back door of the city. Once thought a suitable location for the jail, our riverfronts are now home to headquarters for business and technology, cultural institutions, residential towers and the world’s largest green building: the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Riverlife works to seize the opportunity, not just to open up our riverfronts, but to create spectacular edges with buildings that invite engagement between the city and the water and with shoreline parks that bring our river environment into the heart of city life. Designs for lighting, signage, landscaping and marine installations all make a difference, and we are proud of the added investment that our partners and property owners make, often reaching beyond current market expectations, to create buildings that grace our riverfronts.
Our Urban Design Committee aims to inspire investment and elevate design quality in the development of public and private riverfront property. Our Transportation Committee works to improve connections to and along our riverfronts. We also strive to minimize the impediments that may restrict public access to our rivers’ edges and increase the standards set for road and bridge design.
We’re setting the bar very high. Riverlife has developed a series of documents to insure high-quality design and environmental protection in projects within Three Rivers Park:
